Fuel Cells

Fuel cell technology, using hydrogen as input, is currently too expensive due to the extraction cost of the input. There are 2 ways to extract hydrogen: electrolysis, reforming hydrocarbon fuels.

PEM Fuel cells is use for smaller scale batteries system such as vehicles. Ballard Power (BLDP.US) & Hydrogenics (HYGS.US) are players in this.

DMFC (direct methanol) & DLFC (direct liquid) are small low temperature fuel cells that are on the verge of commercialisation as portable power & micro-electronics. Medis Tech (MDTL.US) & Mech Tech (MKTY.US) are 2 players here.

MCFC (molten carbonate) works at high temperature & has an internal reformer & uses any hydrogen-based fuel like natural gas, propane, methane. Can be use for large scale projects like plant. FuelCell Energy (FCEL.US) is a player.
